Parisian book market

Whilst wandering back to our hotel one day of our trip we noticed a market place that said it was open the next day, so on saturday morning we headed down not knowing what to expect and it was incredible.  Firstly it was huge and all the stalls had such a wide range of old books, magazines, prints and posters. It was my ephemeral heaven.  I spent a lot but I did get a few bargains and I just think I would never get these things anywhere else and they are too beautiful to not get.  Although we didn't speak french all the stall owners were lovely and tried to speak to us in English and explain where things were from etc.
I love collecting ephemera like this, not only because of the history but they are often so beautifully designed, with amazing typography and handwriting.

I cannot wait till I have my own place so I can frame and display all these things properly!

I don’t think anything quite compares to the feeling of receiving something handwritten.  Whether its just a postcard saying hello or a heartfelt letter, in the throw away society we live in today getting a message in a physical format gives you reason to save and treasure it.  I think its sad that when the next generation gets old it won’t have a collection of notes, letters and postcards to look back on,  to re read and remember the past, its such a lovely thing in the same way as looking through an old photo album and that too will soon become a thing of the past.   

I have always been very nostalgic and would much prefer to make something by hand than create it digitally.  Now I’m not completely knocking the old pc because where would I be without it but I just think that its so unpersonal and sometimes its nice to hold and feel something physical, something one off personal.

I don’t know where this train of thought came from or is going but I just want to always make people think about sending something handwritten in the post because its a very rare and wonderful thing to receive.
