Do what makes YOU happy

I always seem to feel as though I’m in a constant battle with myself over what I want to do with my life, what sort of work I want to produce and where I fit in.  It’s the reason I’ve still not applied for any jobs in my field since graduating and why I always feel so back and forth.  I have never worked in one particular style, or created work particularly recognisable as mine.  I look at a brief or problem and think  of what would be most appropriate to fulfil it, whether it be collage, print or illustration.  I like to create images of objects or animals rather than a scene or illustrating a story.  I long to be able to create what other people create.  I see some really striking graphics or elaborate typography and want to do it all, but thats just not possible!  I need to focus on what I can do and what I can do well and make more of it, regardless of if its high end slick graphics or cute handmade crafts.   

Anyway I realised something the other day.  It doesn’t matter.  As long as I am doing things that make me happy.  I currently have a part time job and so have money coming in, and time to create.  I need to focus on figuring out who I am, and build up confidence in myself and my work in order for people to appreciate it and to make myself happy, which is the point of it all anyway!

Rawrrrrr

So my shop is ready to go live pretty soon! Just a few things up there but I am hoping to add some one  off bits and bobs as things progress.  I though I’d put up a few more images and things here as I can only add 1 on big cartel!

Lost :
Lost is an A6 screen-printed concertina book, which documents a lost journey around London 
through illustrations.  Edition of 15.

Bespoke print and illustration

In a couple of weeks I am heading over to Ireland to be the sponsor for my cousin at her confirmation, and I wanted to make her a little something to mark the occasion.  After the few experiments I had done with the copper ink I really wanted to use that! I drew a simple dove outline which is a symbol that appears on a lot of religious cards. To make it more personal and to add the typography  I hand drew in ink the text creating a one off bespoke, personal artwork just for her.  Can’t wait to give it to her
