So I can finally unveil my sleeve design for secret 7. Unfortunatly I couldn’t make it to the sale of the sleeves on saturday but I hear it was a great success. The addition of a photo booth this year means that you can see who bought each sleeve on their Facebook page so I could have a nosey at who bought mine. All the artists names are now up on the website alongside the artwork and a few pieces that didn’t sell on saturday are still available on ebay until sunday.
I designed a sleeve for Elbows - Grounds for divorce taking elements of the lyrics and and transferring it into tattoo designs which I handout and printed using lino. It’s not the sort of illustration I’ve done before but I really enjoyed researching tattoo designs and making something unlike anything I’ve done before!
So this weeks been ever so exciting for me and I don’t care if people are bored of me talking about it, it’s a big deal to me! This week I went to check out the Secret 7” show and see my sleeve design in the flesh. It’s all still a big secret until next week so I can’t reveal my design just yet but I did take a few other pictures of designs that I liked.
There was everything from a smily face, an x-ray sleeve, one made from ceramics and some gorgeous illustration and design. The open brief meant that everyone really had a bit of fun and ran with it to creative the most diverse range of work I’ve ever seen in one space.
The private view was great, despite having to fly solo, I did manage to pluck up the courage to chat to a few people and it had a really good atmosphere. You really got the feeling that everyone was excited to be involved and the range of work and experience in the designers made for a show which anyone and everyone could enjoy and appreciate. Not forgetting of course that all the money goes to charity.
I also popped along at the weekend with my parents and the atmosphere was just as good with the sun shiny and the dj playing an eclectic mix of music.
I would urge anyone create to submit something next year because you never know your design could be picked too!
All sleeves are up for sale for £45, with the proceeds going to war child, on the 19th April (record store day), and once you buy one you’ll find out who it’s by and what track it is. Secret7s
So this weekend I got some very exciting news! My artwork has been picked to make up 1 of the 700 vinyl covers in the secret 7 exhibition. I genuinely did not think I would have been picked but it just goes to show that things like this are worth entering. I heard that over 3000 people submitted designs which is incredible and my work will be exhibited amongst the work of Harland Miller, Paul Smith and Karl Pilkington of all people!
This is probably the most exciting thing to ever happen to me and I can’t stop grinning. Obviously I can’t show you my design until after record store day but all 700 sleeves are available to view here along with all the contributors.
If you are in London on 12-13th do go have a nose at the exhibition and on record store day (19th April) all the vinyls are available to buy. Do go and check it out as the range of work is incredible and all proceed go to War Child.
